My name is Lucas and am joining the blog late. I had a pen pal but I haven't heard from him in a while; I looked at his own blog and he said he was really sick, this was on the 8th, so I suppose that is why I haven't heard from him.
I came into this class knowing some things about HIV/AIDS. I work in a hospital and have seen many HIV positive patients, some I have actually built somewhat of a relationship with because they were there for months. I knew how the disease was spread and about the different opportunistic infections and how it has become a world-wide epidemic.
I now know much more about the virus. I have learned a lot through our readings, discussions, movies and projects. Not only do I know a lot more about the disease itself, but Iam starting to learn about what the people affected by this disease go through and how tough it can be.

Welcome to blogging! I'm sorry to hear about your pen pal. Hopefully he gets better soon. I have also learned a lot more about this disease. I am looking forward to learning about what the people affected by this disease go through. I haven't spoken to any pen pals, but I am going to the men's infected panel in November. Right now I am doing an internship in a hospital and it is a great experience, because I get to meet people from different walks of life and learn so much. Everyone is fighting their own battles and you never know the effect you can have on them.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy your blogging experience. I look forward to reading your future blogs!
I think your going to find reading the classmates blogs really interesting. It is unfortunate to head about your pen pal though. Hopefully he will make it through his tough times soon. It's great that you work at a hospital and get a first hand look at people with HIV. You are getting a better understanding of it than most people. This class has also helped me learn so much more about HIV and it has opened up a whole new point of view for the topic which is a reality for most people.
ReplyDeleteHey Lucas,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the club:)Sorry to hear about your pen pal, but let me tell you that blogging is fun. I enjoy it alot, and I hope you do too.
I totally agree with you, we learn so much every week, it's really good that we're becoming aware of the disease and how it spreads. I've never met someone with HIV; I am sure it's different for you because you get to see and talk to those people, unlike me where I just hear about them, and I can only imagine what it's like to live with the disease.
Again, welcome to the family, and if you need any help with blogging feel free to ask :)
Hi Lucas, that is good that you've worked at a hospital and met people with HIV. Were those people in the hospital there because of something related to their HIV or something else?
ReplyDeleteI think you will like blogging too. Now you get to experience both the pen pal and blogging. I kind of wish that I could have had a pen pal too. What exactly did you have to talk about with the pen pal? Were the pen pals people with HIV or just other students?
Hey! :) I also was aware of HIV but have learned so much from this class.
ReplyDeleteI was a little skeptical about blogging at first, but have found it to be fun and interesting. You get to find out your peers thoughts and experiences with HIV/AIDS. Don't limit yourself, these blogs are meant to be a chance to get your thoughts and feelings out.
For example, a lot of the time after I finish my QOTW i'll think of more things I want to say about the topic, I use my blogs to say anything I didn't get a chance to say before.
Hi Lucas. Welcome to our blogging. I do hope your pen pal is okay and that they have a support system in place to help them out. The fact that you haven't gotten a response in a while is not good. I know this must have been difficult for you as I am sure you are worried about your pen pal. I look forward to reading more of your blogs.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your pen pal, Lucas. I hope you are reading what the others are posting. I'm trying to catch up myself.
