Blog #1

Hey everybody. I haven't done much blogging yet, but I will get going now. I just got back from New York, my uncle had passed away unexpectedly and I had to rush home; to top it all off I have been really sick. I am still really confused as to what I need to talk about. Can anybody help me? I really haven't a clue. Any good suggestions?
Before I went home to NY, I met a person who has had HIV for seventeen years, and is still doing fine. He had only recently been put on HIV medications, and said he has no noticeable side effects. I work in a hospital and I had to get him for a test, so I asked him a few questions, and he was friendly enough to answer them. He said he was a 'non-progressor'. I guess it just goes to show you the virus effects everyone differently; depending on the strain you contract as well as the genes you inherit. It is possible to keep on living a normal life with HIV.

  1. Hey Lucas,
I am sorry to hear about your uncle.
As far as blogging goes, you need to talk about new stuff you learn in class, you know like interesting assignments we did, the question of the week, facts, anything:)
And also you need to choose something about HIV, and write a "DID YOU KNKOW" section about it in every blog. For example, I am doing HIV/AIDS and stigma, and every week I add a new fact like stigma and HIV + women, HIV stigma in jail, just like that.
    Good luck on blogging.

  2. Hi Lucas, glad to have you on board. All you have to do is read everyone's blog and comment on them. Its pretty easy. This is a great time to share a little bit about yourself and get to know others.

  3. Hey Lucas welcome to our team! I'm sorry about hearing of your uncle's loss. For this assignment all you have to do is talk about anything that has to do with this class such as past assignments, thoughts about what we're learning in class, how are you personally feel about what is being taught, and mention things like with what you did with the person you met who had HIV. This assignment is not hard at all but the teacher recommends that you don't write little in your blogs such as only 1 paragraph. I say at least two paragraphs should be fine. Good luck!

  4. A long term non progressor is someone who has had HIV for many, many years and never had to take medications as quickly as others. However, the virus will eventually force them to start on the medications, which is what happened to this individual. The men told everyone at the panel, that HIV affects everyone differently. He is proof of that difference.
